HPC Scientific Advisory Committee

Rationale

The HPC Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) represents the High Performance Computing user base and ensures that ARCHER meets the current and future needs of the research community. The SAC comments on progress reports by the service providers from a user perspective and inputs user requirements to the SMB.

Objectives

  • To recommend activities to the Strategic Management Board to improve and/or add value to the user experience of the service
  • To comment on the performance of CSE and SP concerning the user experience of ARCHER and provide recommendations to the Strategic Management Board
  • To review (where appropriate) the outputs of other Research Council HPC groups/committees and suggest courses of action to the Strategic Management Board
  • To monitor ARCHER's scientific impact on the UK HPC landscape and help developing the scientific case for future national HPC investments.

Membership and Composition

In order to work towards the above objectives, it is necessary to ensure input from the user communities of the partner research councils. We aim to achieve a balanced membership from research consortia, independent users, centres for doctoral training and industry.
