In early 2012, expressions of interest were sought to bid into a call for proposals in graphene engineering research. The aim of the call was to focus research on manufacturing processes and technologies linked to graphene in order to accelerate the development and generation of novel devices, applications technologies or systems. The call was structured with two independent streams - research programmes and equipment proposals.
An expression of interest short-listing panel was held in May 2012, and as a result 19 research programmes and four equipment proposals were successful and applicants have been invited to submit full proposals.
Full proposals will be sent to reviewers over the summer and an assessment panel will be held in the autumn. Grants are expected to be announced by the end of the year.
