Following the announcement of an extra £106 million, over five years, to develop new Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs), David Delpy, Chief Executive of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), said:

"EPSRC welcomes the Chancellor's further commitment to investing in the future scientists and engineers the country needs. Centres for Doctoral Training provide a supportive environment in which students working with their peers can gather the skills they and industry need while carrying out high quality independent research. EPSRC will be working hard to establish how we can best use these new funds for the maximum benefit to the UK and its research base."

This additional investment brings EPSRC's total investment in CDTs to £496 million. On top of this £374 million was leveraged from other sources in support of the 91 Centres announced so far.
