Opportunities in defence research

Centre for Defence Enterprise

The Centre for Defence Enterprise is the first point of contact for anyone with a disruptive technology, new process or innovation that has a potential defence application.

Funding is available to both academic and business organisations, and you can submit a proposal at any time. Successful applicants could benefit from:

  • Proof-of-concept funding in the form of a research contract
  • Support from military scientists and engineers
  • Ministry of Defence trials and testing facilities
  • A mentoring service ensuring a single point of contact within the Ministry of Defence
  • A unique customer insight into both UK and non-domestic defence markets

EPSRC and Dstl working together

EPSRC and Dstl have formed a strategic partnership. As a result we intend to periodically issue joint calls for proposals which will be supported by both organisations. Calls will be announced on the EPSRC and Dstl websites.

There might be circumstances where an academic researcher has a proposal that they think may have strong relevance to Dstl but is not at that time in a featured call area. In such exceptional circumstances the proposal should be discussed with Dstl (contact Dr Jim Wilson). If Dstl agree to make a financial contribution, this should be included in the proposal as a contribution from another partner. Applications should no longer be made through the Joint Grants Scheme route.
