Software and computational science support
Software support is important for the next generation of computer architectures and proposals for computing time can seek funding for support and optimisation on their individual grants (e.g. PDRA support, an STFC facility or a third party source).
Proposals that are awarded compute time on HECToR will automatically have access to comprehensive training and Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) support provided by Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) Ltd. Training will be at no cost to the applicant and available on a needs basis however travel expenses to and from the courses will need to be covered by the applicant in their proposal.
In addition to the responsive CSE support, NAG also facilitates a distributed CSE support function designed to provide in depth support directly to a researcher, group or consortium. The distributed CSE support will be awarded via peer review of cases for support from applicants requiring access to this support; peer review will be run by NAG Ltd and will draw on research community expertise to guide their decisions. DCSE will only be available to researchers with access to compute on the HECToR system and who fall into the remit of NAG, EPSRC and NERC.
HECToR training courses
The Computational Science and Engineering Support (CSE) service, run by Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) Ltd, has released the initial list of training courses it will run for HECToR this year.
The courses are offered free-of-charge to all EPSRC-sponsored academics and research students.
Support to research projects
NAG also provide dedicated CSE support to research projects with high performance computing (HPC) resource. This support is allocated via panels run throughout the year.
