Allowances and expenditure guidelines
These are our upper limits for non-EPSRC staff claiming actual expenditure when they are travelling on EPSRC business.
Subsistence
Day - upper limits for claiming actual expenditure
- 5-10 hours - £8.50
- 10+ hours - £17
Note: the 5-10 hours subsistence limit relates to a single meal/refreshment break and the 10+ hours limit relates to two meal/refreshments breaks. If a meal is provided at public expense (ie, at no cost to the traveller) within a period of travel of less than 10 hours no additional claim for subsistence expenses will be allowed.
Overnight - upper limits for claiming actual expenditure
- London (bed and breakfast) - £120
- Elsewhere in the UK (bed and breakfast) - £100
Overnight subsistence – flat rate allowances
- Staying with family or friends (to cover board and lodgings) - £25
- Incidental expenses allowance in UK - £5, overseas - £10
Transport
Use of private vehicles
In accordance with HMRC guidelines, updated in April 2011, EPSRC will pay:
- Mileage 45p/mile
- Passenger supplement – 5p/mile for each passenger
